El Caos Reptante: Necroblues
16/09/13 || Cobal
THIS is a hard one. For one — and in case you haven’t noticed yet, I’m definitely into slow motion stuff. I can’t help it. Add Lovecraft’s work inspired lyrics and you got me. Now the blues influence here is just the jewel of the crown, the cherry on the pie, you get the point. Indeed, “Necroblues” could have had everything in its favor in my book… If done right, that is.
On the other hand, there’s the vocals. After the meh performance on the opener “Gritos de alas negras” (Screams of black wings) I thought there was not going to be much of an issue about the singing here. Oh, Cthulhu, was I wrong! I don’t think I’ve heard any more out of tune, stif, simpleton and idiotic vocals ever than the poor performance in “Valle de huesos secos” — the second track. In fact, I have, I just don’t like to recall it. Oddly enough, vocals do get better and even pretty well in the other two songs. WTF?
Now about the music itself, there are some very interesting even passionate moments here and there, and I have to say I almost forgave the nightmare the second track was. I just wish these Argentinians were a bit more daring when giving their songs a climax. Regardless, I think these guys could be some sort of a surprise in a few years. When they protect their vocalist from being raped in the recording studio, perhaps?
5/10: Track 2 was a dealbreaker.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
